India is taking the first steps towards DMB
India is taking big steps towards a T-DMB service roll-out.
The Korean Ministry of Information and Communication recently confirmed they are
in close cooperation with India's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the
prolific Tata business group. India's largest GSM mobile-phone service operator
Bharati-Airtel is also involved to expedite the launch of T-DMB commercial services. India is expected to adopt Band III transmissions for T-DMB.
German launch 2006
Germany is moving rapidly towards T-DMB on L-Band with plans well advanced to launch a commercial mobile TV broadcast service using T-DMB to coincide with the 2006 FIFA Soccer Championships.
Thomas Wächter, Head of Broadcast Technology from T-systems in Germany said, "In Germany, licensing of a national DMB-multiplex in L-band is underway. The commercial service is expected to start in June in those cities where the FIFA football world championship will be hosted. The devices will cover the entire DAB Digital Radio standard and will thus offer the user access to digital radio content as well as TV. Digital Radio is today on-air across Germany. The new T-DMB receivers will offer consumers a convincing package of Mobile TV content and Digital Radio."
