Frontier Silicon Brings World Jukebox to Mass-Market Audio Products

London, 4 December, 2007: At the 2008 CES tradeshow in Las Vegas (January 7-10), Frontier Silicon will be showcasing technology enabling on-demand music services on stand-alone consumer audio systems.  Such services have until now only been accessible through PCs, but will now be available through mass-market home audio products such as tabletop radios, Microsystems and clock radios. These products will have unlimited access to a vast array of audio content covering all genres of music, concerts, comedies, news, and all other programme formats that will become available over time.

On-demand music services from companies such as Rhapsody, Napster, Music Load, Classical.com and others are rapidly gaining popularity, providing users with on-line access to a vast jukebox of audio tracks for a monthly subscription fee. Frontier Silicon has now developed the technology to deliver these services through its Venice 6 module, providing the opportunity for audio manufactures to develop home music systems that can tap into this near-infinite supply of audio programming.

Delivering this capability on our Venice 6 module is allowing audio manufactures to introduce a new class of product, creating huge excitement in the audio industry.”

Venice 6 is the world’s first digital radio module capable of receiving Internet radio via Wi-Fi, DAB/DAB+, FM, music streamed from a network server and now music on demand. It is built on Frontier Silicon’s Chorus 2 processor, and streams radio stations and music files in a variety of formats and protocols including MP3, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and Real Audio. Venice 6 includes multi-language support, UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and Internet Software Upgrade (ISU) functionality, allowing firmware to be easily updated over Wi-Fi.

Demonstrations of Frontier Silicon’s music on-demand solution will be made at CES 2008 with the company’s new Jupiter 6 and Quantum 4 platforms. Jupiter 6 is designed for tabletop and kitchen radio designs and Quantum 4 for more comprehensive micro systems.  The system will be available to OEMs and ODMs from January 2008.
