Frontier Silicon responds to publication of Digital Radio Working Group report
London, 19 December 2008: Frontier Silicon today welcomes the recommendations of the Digital Radio Working Group, setting out a timetable for the migration of UK radio to a DAB digital platform.
The transition from analogue to digital services is very significant for the radio industry, enabling broadcasters to offer more channels and reduce costs, while also improving choice, accessibility and new data applications for consumers.
Recommendations by the Digital Radio Working Group, set up by the Government, coincide with continued growth in digital radio, rising at 18 per cent annually with more than 2 million new devices sold in the current year.
Anthony Sethill, Chief Executive of Frontier Silicon, said: “Digital radio is here to stay, with DAB sets outselling analogue models by six to one. As and when the Government adopts the recommendations of this report, we will see the success of digital television repeated in radio within the next 10 years.”
Mr Sethill pledged that Frontier Silicon would work with the Government, broadcasters, automotive suppliers and technology groups to ensure the report recommendations are met.
