Frontier Silicon welcomes government's commitment to DAB in Digital Britain Interim Report
London, 29 January 2009: Frontier Silicon, the supplier of DAB radio solutions, today welcomed the Government's commitment to DAB as the primary distribution network for future radio broadcasting in the UK.
The company, which supplies the technology for the majority of digital radios sold in Britain, is poised to benefit from Government proposals, contained in today's interim Digital Britain report, endorsing the digital migration of radio.
Anthony Sethill, Chief Executive of Frontier Silicon, said: “We are delighted with the recommendations contained in the interim Digital Britain report, which couldn’t be more timely as market penetration of DAB radio continues to rise."
Under the Government's action plan for radio, digital migration will take effect once 50 per cent of radio listening is digital; when national DAB coverage is comparable to FM coverage; and once DAB reaches 90 per cent of the population and all major roads.
Anthony Sethill added: "We look forward to joining the Digital Radio Delivery Group along with retailers, transmission networks, BBC, commercial radio companies and manufacturers as we strive to increase the availability and affordability of DAB and advise on the creation of a concrete Digital Migration Plan.”
