Frontier Silicon reaches 10 million milestone in DAB sales worldwide
Sales to double in the next three years driven by new market growth
London – 8th February 2010: Frontier Silicon, the leading supplier of DAB digital radio technology, announces that it has reached a record 10 million sales in DAB systems worldwide.
With over 12 million DAB units already in circulation – and with this total growing by more than two to three million per year – Frontier Silicon expects to reach 20 million sales in less than half the time it has taken to reach 10 million.

Last year the company set up a dedicated business unit with staff located in France, Germany and the UK to address the key issue of in-car radio. France is currently driving this revolution thanks to government legislation supporting the installation of DMB radios as standard in all cars by September 2013 – some two years ahead of France’s European peers. There are approximately 2.2 million cars sold in France each year; and with 98 per cent of its 61 million people owning an FM radio, the market potential for both in-car and in-home DMB radios is considerable. Broadcasters in France are also looking to advance radio visually by introducing multimedia elements to further enhance the consumer experience. Frontier Silicon is perfectly positioned to help drive this trend, having already deployed its colour touch-screen radio technology in products such as the Revo IKON.
Anthony Sethill, Chief Executive of Frontier Silicon, said:
“This landmark 10 million sales figure is a big step forward for DAB. Frontier Silicon systems are the most widely deployed in the world and this trend is set to continue as European take-up gathers pace. With France rolling out its DMB-Radio network in 2010, there is already significant appetite for our standard and advance colour touch-screen radios that are capable of supporting all three WorldDMB standards (DAB, DAB+ and DMB-Radio) enabling single low cost, energy efficient radios that are interoperable throughout Europe.”
